March 5, 2023 No Comments

Have you tried a weekend chat in your Spanish class? It is a simple way to kick off the week and you know that your students love talking about themselves. But sometimes it can get a little stale just asking “¿Qué hiciste este fin de semana?” especially first period when they’re still half asleep. Read on to find out a variety of ways to mix up your weekend chat and get your Spanish students engaged in the conversation!

Simple idea for weekend chat:

One simple way is to take polls, compare their data to another class, and have them make predictions about what people did that weekend. For example, they can guess how many students in the class played a sport. Keep a tally of who got the answers right to see who is the best guesser in the class.

Ideas for weekend chat:

  • Who played a sport?
  • Who played the most video games (number of hours, number of different games, who played with friends or family)
  • Who had the busiest/ laziest/ most exciting/most sports filled weekend. Then vote for a winner.
  • Who ate the most delicious meal
  • 2 truths and a lie (my students’ favorite)

Weekend chat can spark so much conversation in Spanish, and about things that students want to talk about. Get to know your students and their interests and it will make this activity a no brainer. Need some more activities for weekend chat?
