5 Amazing Games for Spanish Class

April 27, 2022 No Comments

My students and I absolutely love playing games in class. They get so excited and into the activity that they don’t even realize they’re using Spanish. It’s awesome. Looking to incorporate more games into your class? Read on to find out about my five favorite games.

¿Qué ves?

This is played like “I Spy.” I detail the directions of how to make your own here. Looking for some ready to go games?  I made games for my class about: food, family, house, bedroom, classroom and more!

 Board Games

Want to make your own board game for Spanish class? Here are my step by step directions. Or save yourself some time and check out these that I made for my class: family, food, & house.

Get your students practicing their circumlocution skills by giving them clues in Spanish about their vocabulary words. Divide your vocabulary list in half, write the clues, and let them play with a partner. Check out some examples here.

Pasapalabras

Another circumlocution game that takes very little prep! Students work in pairs. Student A faces the board and their partner. Student B faces the back of the room (so they can’t see the board). The teacher projects three of the vocabulary words on the board. Student A uses Spanish to describe the 3 words and student B must guess them. Once they have guessed all 3 words, they switch seats. When the teacher calls time, all students must switch spots, then the teacher projects 3 new words. Here is an example game on “accidentes y desastres naturales.”

La serpiente

Your competitive students will love this game! Create as many clues as your largest class (25 students= 25 clues). Print 1 clue per page, number them, and then distribute the clues so that there is one on each desk. Your students should take out a sheet of paper and number it (as many numbers as there are clues). Tell them to answer the question at their desk and write their answer on their numbered sheet of paper. Then the game begins! Set a timer for 15 seconds. Explain to them that each time the timer goes off they will move to a different desk (or pass the papers, whichever you are most comfortable with). Once they have gone around the entire room and answered all the questions, the answers will be revealed. The students with the most points win.
