Have you talked about the weather with your Spanish students? Spanish weather vocabulary is one of the first things I teach in August but it’s an awesome topic to bring up in December with the change in seasons. Below in this blog post are a variety of posts I’ve written & activities I use to incorporate weather words into my lessons.
My favorite Spanish weather vocabulary activities:
- Introduction PowerPoint for weather vocabulary/. There are so many new Spanish weather words for them to learn, but don’t worry! This is a no prep great way to introduce el tiempo and the new vocabulary.
- If you’ve been doing calendar talk, check out this post for some fresh ideas. Calendar Talk is a natural way to incorporate the question “qué tiempo hace” into your daily routine. My favorite digital version of Calendar Talk uses Google Slides and is a quick way to start class every day.
- Get students chatting with these speaking task cards. The best way to get them speaking in Spanish with partner practice in a low-stress environment. Then give them some writing practice with the personal questions worksheet.
- Create a word wall with weather expressions
- Read about weather in Spain & Argentina (What?! It’s hot in December? ¿Hace calor? ¿No hace frío?). This Spanish weather worksheet helps them to compare the weather in Argentina with where they live.
- Read about weather in Chile, Perú, and Argentina. More reading input = acquisition. This is one of my favorite activities to build Spanish vocabulary using real life context and cross cultural comparisons. You can easily check their reading comprehension by assigning this worksheet as independent work.
- Picture talk using an authentic painting from Goya. Build up their Spanish language listening skills with weather vocabulary words using this zero prep great resource!
- 4 different interactive & fun class games to get them using weather vocabulary. Inject some fun and Spanish games into your lesson plans. Your Spanish students will love this fun activity.
- Save a big 20% on tons of weather activities with this bundle
