Need a Quick Cultural Activity for Your Spanish Class?

January 24, 2024 No Comments

I’m obsessed with these postcards for infusing my Spanish class with culture! They are so low prep and there are a ton of different ways I can use them. Why is reusing an activity so important? Because this one activity about Spanish speaking countries can be repurposed which saves me time lesson planning! Want to know my top 5 ways to use these postcards to jumpstart conversations about culture in my Spanish class? Read on!

1. Students research the different countries.

Assign each student a Spanish speaking country to research (or let them pick their favorite). Then they write a letter on the back of the postcard explaining what they learned about the country.

2. Students present in small groups

After researching their country, students teach their classmates about what they learned. This can be done in English in a lower level class or in Spanish in your upper level classes.

3. Decorate your classroom!

These postcards make a BEAUTIFUL bulletin board and are a quick way to get your classroom decorated ASAP. Or string them from the ceiling so both sides are visible. Or display them in the hallway for the whole school to see during Hispanic heritage month.

4. Gallery walk

Post the cards around the room. Make a quick worksheet to go along with the cards. Some ideas for questions are: true false, pick your favorite 3 and write a fact about each one, and write 1 cool fact from each country.

5. Use them as a picture talk

Picture talk is one of my favorite low prep activities. Just display the picture and ask your students questions in Spanish about what they see. An easy way to make cross cultural comparisons.
