By the end of the school year do you find that your desk and classroom have collected a lot of random items? Are you hanging on to things thinking, “well maybe I’ll need them next year?” Does it sometimes feel a little overwhelming? Time to clean out! For as hard as it may be in June, you will really thank yourself in August when you return to your clean and organized room. Read on to find out my essential checklist for cleaning out my classroom at the end of the school year.
- Toss any old student work that you’re not planning on returning
- Need to hang on to semester exams? File them away until you’re allowed to recycle them.
- Create a checklist for yourself for the next school year. Include any back-to-school items like setting up your online accounts for your classes, setting up your grade book, & making seating charts.
- Contact maintenance with any major items that need to be addressed over the summer. A broken desk, moving your filing cabinet to a different classroom, or installing a bulletin board.
- Create a list of your school passwords. You’d be surprised at how quickly you forget them over the summer.
- Organize classroom materials that you will be keeping for next year. Games, novels, fly swatters, stamps, crayons, craft materials, Etc. Make sure that your last name is written on it.
- Organize your digital files and clean out your email inbox.
- Unsubscribe from any annoying lists that you may have been accidentally placed on. You don’t want those junk emails filling up your inbox over the summer.
- Return school materials to the front office. Keys, ID, computer, iPad, fab.
- Smile. Summer break is just starting. Enjoy your well deserved break.
