So Your Students are Begging for Holiday Spanish Activities. Try These!

December 7, 2021 No Comments

It’s the holiday season and your students are begging you to “do something fun” in class. But you’re thinking “I have to give them as much Spanish as possible.” If you’re like me you’re always thinking that one class a day just isn’t enough to learn another language. So what do you do? What about trying some fun holiday themed activities that use Spanish! They have fun AND get Spanish input. Read on to learn about my seven favorites. You can click on the pictures for more details.

Dibuja sobre el invierno

In this creative activity students will read six sentences about winter activities and draw to demonstrate what they understood. Your artistic students will love showing off their talents! This resource includes a vocabulary list of key words if your students need a little extra support. This is an easy warm up, bell ringer, or sub plan!

¿Que se puede hacer en invierno?

Students learn winter themed vocabulary (hot chocolate, snow, skates, etc.) to complete a word search, crossword puzzle, 4 “read & draw” activities, listening, and true/false questions. There are so many different types of activities to give lots of input with this winter vocabulary. BONUS- The digital version uses “drag and drop” images instead of having students draw. A great way to include differentiation!

¿Qué tiempo hace en diciembre?

Two novice level reading passages kick off this resource. Have your students ever thought about how different the weather is in Argentina compared to Spain in December? This will spark their curiosity. Students then write a letter back to their pen pals telling them about their local weather. Finally, they complete true/false questions and a Venn Diagram to demonstrate comprehension of the passages.

La Navidad – ¡A dibujar!

Creative students will love this glyph read and draw activity about Christmas. Students read 10 statements and decide if they are logical or illogical. Based on their answers, they color in the winter scene. It is so easy for teachers to grade. If the colors match, you can tell students are comprehending the Spanish!

Speaking task cards

Are your students curious about how Christmas is celebrated in Spain? Using these interpersonal speaking task cards, they will teach each other the basic facts about Christmas and los Reyes Magos on January 6th. Just pass them out to the class and get them up and chatting.

Holilday lights decorations

I love decorating my classroom for the holidays. These cute holiday lights will help your students with the colors in Spanish. Print, cut, and post in your room. Or print the black & white version and let your students decorate them however they want!

This set of lights features the Sweet 16 verbs. Print them in Spanish/ English or just Spanish. I love to string them from the ceiling.
